Saturday, March 14, 2015, 1 p.m. — Mayor John Royalty fired City Attorney Bruce Reynolds Friday afternoon in what Royalty described as another administrative change since Royalty took over as mayor of Bardstown.
Royalty said he has hired Bardstown attorney Tim Butler to replace Reynolds as city attorney. Butler has extensive experience in planning and zoning matters, Royalty said. Butler formerly served as planning and zoning administrator in Nelson County, and has experience in historic zoning and preservation matters.
“Everybody has the leadership team they want to put together,” Royalty told the Nelson County Gazette Saturday afternoon. “I have nothing personal against Bruce, it was simply an administrative change.”
Royalty said he had been in talks with Butler for some time about the position.
Reynolds has served as city attorney since former City Attorney Tom Donan retired from the position in May 2014.
CHIEF FINANCIAL OFFICER. Another change in City Hall’s leadership team will take place after Mike Abell, the city’s long-time chief financial officer, retires at the end of March.
The CFO serves as the city’s financial manager, responsible for making sure utility bills, tax bills and other bills are accurate and timely. The CFO oversees the city’s investments and budget preparation.
Royalty has not announced who he will appoint to replace Abell. Whoever Royalty selects to fill the job will require the approval of the city council.
