Monday, March 16, 2015, 10:30 a.m. — The man who showed up at Flaget Memorial Hospital’s emergency room early Saturday morning and claimed to have been shot during an altercation fabricated the story, police say.
At 2:13 a.m. Saturday, deputies with the Nelson County Sheriff’s Office were dispatched to Flaget Hospital after a man named Michael Burgen entered the hospital emergency room with a minor gunshot wound to his upper arm. Burgen told hospital staff he was shot during an altercation with two men at the Stage Stop on Louisville Road. Sheriff’s Office Detective Jon Snow investigated the incident and determined Burgen intentionally shot himself and created a story to cover-up the incident.
A police press release said Burgen was not arrested at the time, but charges may be pending.
