CHARLES GILBERT SHAIN

Charles Gilbert Shain, 94, of Bardstown, died Friday, March 20, 2015, at Colonial Health and Rehab in Bardstown. He was born March 25, 1920, in Nelson County to the late Henry David and Mary Rose Parrent Shain. He was a retired employee of Heaven Hill Distillery and Buzick Construction. He was an U.S. Army veteran of World War II and a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Edna Mattingly Shain; his parents, Henry David and Mary Rose Parrent Shain; four sisters, Mary Lee Burba, Amy Louise Summers, Nelly Shain and Ruby Bickett; one brother, James Henry “J.H.” Shain; his stepmother, Frances C. Shain; one half-sister, Sherry Hyde, and one half-brother, David H. Shain.

He is survived by one daughter, Carolyn Jean Shain of Bardstown; one sister, Emma D King of Orange Park, Fla.; several nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews; and his special dog, Sweetie who was his baby girl.

The funeral is 5 p.m. Monday, March 23, 2015, at the Houghlin-Greenwell Funeral Home in Bardstown. The Rev. David Cockson will officiate. Cremation will follow the service.

Visitation is 4-8 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.

The family requests that expressions of sympathy take the form of contribution to your favorite charity in his memory.

The Houghlin-Greenwell Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
