NE Nelson, Bardstown fire crews battle early morning fire near Chaplin

Sunday, March 22, 2015, 5 p.m. — A Chaplin area home suffered significant damage in an early morning structure fire. The Northeast Nelson Fire Department was called out at just after 3 a.m. Sunday for a fire in the 5200 block of Lawrenceburg Road. The first firefighters on the scene reported heavy smoke showing from the roof.
Fire crews attacked the fire and requested additional manpower from the Bardstown Fire Department, and had the fire knocked down by about 3:40 a.m. Bardstown firefighters assisted the Northeast Nelson firefighters for about 2-1/2 hours. The American Red Cross was called to help the residents with immediate shelter needs following the fire. The Northeast Nelson firefighters were on the scene for more than three hours.
