Obituary: Catherine Edelen, 80, Bardstown

Catherine Edelen, 80, of Bardstown, died Saturday April 4, 2015, at Life Care Center of Bardstown. She was the former Catherine Barber and was born August 31, 1934, to the late P.S. and Maude Mudd funeral_lilyBarber Sr. in Washington County. She was a retired bookkeeper for Spalding and Edelman and Barber Cabinet Company. She was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church where she sang in the choir.

Along with her parents, she was preceded in death by four sisters, Delena Simms, Sr. Frances Barber SCN, Sr. Maude Michele Barber SCN and Angela Wimsatt; three brothers, P.S. “Buddy” Barber IV, Bro. Joseph Barber CR and Aaron Barber; one niece, Mary Gail Ogburn; and one nephew, Joey Wimsatt.

She is survived by her husband and his children, Rhonda (Brian) Potts of Indianapolis and Tammy (Donnie) Yates of Versailles, John Glenn (Debby) Edelen of Versailles, Mark Edelen of Norfolk, Va. and Troy Edelen of San Francisco; three sisters, Margaret Kelly of Springfield, Mary Ann (Al) Bowling of Bardstown and Sr. Catherine Barber OSU of Maple Mount; one brother, Bob (Shirley) Barber of Springfield; one sister-in-law, Patricia Barber of Madison, Ind.; six grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Cremation was chosen by the family. A memorial Mass is 10 a.m. Saturday, April 18, 2015, at the Basilica of St. Joseph Proto Cathedral with the Rev. Bill Hammer as celebrant. Inurnment is at St. Rose Cemetery in Springfield.

Visitation is 9:30-10 a.m. at the church.

The family requests expressions of sympathy take the form of memorial contributions to St. Vincent DePaul or the New Life Center.

The Houghlin-Greenwell Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
