Chlorine leak prompts hazmat response at city water treatment plant

Monday, April 27, 2015, 5:30 p.m. — The Bardstown Fire Department and Nelson County EMS responded to a report of a possible chlorine gas leak at the Bardstown Water Treatment Plant, 2535 Boston Road at 1:55 p.m. Monday. According to firefighters, water treatment plant personnel were changing a tank and a small amount of chlorine gas leaked.
After discussion with water treatment plant employees, it was determined the air had been cleared in the building where the spill occurred. Firefighters were on the scene for about a hour. Joe Prewitt, director of the county’s Emergency Management agency, also responded to the scene.
