Video: Mayor, Nelson Fiscal Court discuss fire department funding issue

NC GAZETTE / WBRT RADIO
STAFF REPORT

Wednesday, May 20, 2015 — Bardstown Mayor John Royalty spoke to Nelson Fiscal Court about the fire department funding issue at the court’s meeting on Tuesday, May 19, 2015. The mayor’s position is that the fire dues county residents pay to the Bardstown-Nelson County Volunteer Fire Department aren’t enough to support its joint operation with the taxpayer-funded Bardstown Fire Department. Judge Executive Dean Watts asks why county residents don’t get credit for paying the city occupational tax. The majority of those who pay the tax live outside the city limits.
