Board announces NC Fair public speaking and youth talent contests

Thursday, May 21, 2015 — Nelson County youth are encourage to apply now for the Nelson County Fair’s youth public speaking and youth talent contests.

The public speaking and talent contests are set for 5 p.m. Saturday, July 11, 2015, at the Nelson County Civic Center, 321 South Third St. in Bardstown.

The deadline to apply is 4 p.m. Thursday, July 9, 2015.

nc_fairOpen Class includes all participants. The Fair Board will award each participant a one-day pass to the Fair which begins the next day. The first-place winner in the public speaking and talent contests will receive a full-week’s pass to the Fair and a cash award of $100. Each runner-up will receive $50.

FFA chapters will award member participation plaques and certificates. Nelson County 4-H Extension will award members champion and participation ribbons.

Additionally, member winners of the Nelson County Farm Bureau Male and Female categories of the Public Speaking Contest will each vie for $100 first place and $50 in runner-up cash awards. The one talent contest first-place member winner will receive $100 and the runner-up will receive $50. The three first-place winners, after completing the necessary paperwork, will qualify to move on to the Kentucky Farm Bureau District contest in early November to compete against eleven other Kentucky Farm Bureau county winners.

All contestants must be from Nelson County and must be 15 to 18 years of age by the end of the year. Public speaking contestants must deliver a two-minute speech about anything relating to agriculture.

Talent contestants, acting alone or with a group, must be from 6 to 18 years old by year-end. Participants must supply the medium needed to present their talent. A microphone may be supplied.

Applications for the Nelson County youth public speaking and talent contests are now available at the Nelson County Farm Bureau Office, 106 Reardon Blvd, or Nelson County 4-H Extension Office, 317 S. 3rd Street, Bardstown, Ky . Contact persons for both contests are Nelson County Farm Bureau Secretary Nancy at 348-8446 and Nelson County 4-H Extension Agent Danielle Hutchins at 348-9204.

Nelson County Farm Bureau is coordinator of the contest and sponsors all the cash prizes.
