JASON ELLIS

Wednesday, May 27, 2015 — The local Fraternal Order of Police lodge announced Wednesday the recipients of the 2015 Officer Jason Ellis Memorial Scholarships.

The scholarships were awarded to one graduating senior from each of the county’s high schools. The 2015 recipients include:

  • Eli Clark – Thomas Nelson High School – $1,000
  • Jeremy Ashworth – Bardstown High School – $250
  • Kaylen Runner – Nelson County High School – $250
  • Caleb Bird – Bethlehem High School – $250

The recipients were notified Monday, May 25 — the second anniversary of Ellis’ death.

“We’re pleased to be able to help local students while honoring our fallen brother,” says Ramon Pineiroa, president of Old Kentucky Home Lodge 43. “We are honored to carry Jason’s name and memory forward in a positive way and hope to be able to continue to do so for many years to come.”

Students first applied for the scholarship and then were required to write an essay. The essays were graded by a panel consisting of an officer with the Bardstown Police Department, a deputy with the Nelson County Sheriff’s Office, a member of Jason Ellis’ family, a chaplain and a community member. The panel selected the best essays from those submitted.

The Fraternal Order of Police Old Kentucky Home Lodge 43 is a non-profit organization.
