MALCOLM H. GEOGHEGAN

Malcolm H. Geoghegan, 89, of Bardstown, died Saturday, May 30, 2015, at Hosparus Inpatient Care Center in Louisville. He was born May 2, 1926, in Shelby County. He attended Bethlehem Academy, St. Joe Prep, and graduated from Spring Hill College in Mobile, Ala. in 1951. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II, in the South Pacific and entered the U.S. Army in 1953 when he served in the Korean War and Vietnam War. He retired from the Army as a Lieutenant Colonel in 1970. He then worked for Jim Beam Distillery for 15 years. He helped fellow veterans with medical transportation and meals, assisted with the American Red Cross Bloodmobile for many years. He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church where he served on their bereavement team.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Lucibelle Allen “Lucy” Geoghegan; one son, Thomas Michael Geoghegan; his parents, William Claude and Mallie Geoghegan; four sisters, Mary Livers, Elizabeth Abell, Sarah Millett, and Louise Geoghegan; and three brothers, John Allen Geoghegan, Alvis Howard Geoghegan, and Thomas Richard Geoghegan.

He is survived by five daughters, Mary Louise (John) Newton, Anne Taylor Geoghegan, Doris Jean Geoghegan and Linda Sue (James) Brady, all of Bardstown, and Nancy Carolyn (James “Mac”) Hayden of Villa Hills; two sons, Malcolm Allen (Cheryl) Geoghegan of Frankfort, and William Arthur (Susan) Geoghegan of Huntsville, Ala.; one sister, Jean Keller of Shaker Heights, Ohio; one brother, William Claude Geoghegan Jr. of Elizabethtown; one sister-in-law, Nellie Geoghegan of Louisville; 12 grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and several nieces and nephews.

The Funeral Mass is 11 a.m. Tuesday, June 2, 2015, at the Basilica of St. Joseph Proto-Cathedral with burial in the Mill Creek Baptist Church Cemetery with the Rev. Bill Hammer officiating.

Visitation is 3-8 p.m. Monday, June 1, 2015, and 9-10:15 a.m. Tuesday at Barlow Funeral Home.

Memorial contributions may go to St. Joseph Bereavement Team or Hosparus of Louisville.

Barlow Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
