Monday, June 1, 2015, 3 p.m. — State Rep. David Floyd has been appointed to a new committee that will oversee implementation of the new law aimed at combating the heroin problem in Kentucky.
“It’s an honor to be appointed by [House Speaker Greg Stumbo] to serve on the oversight committee with Chairman John Tilley, Representatives Denny Butler and Joni Jenkins, and Senate members,” Floyd said through a press release. “We worked well together during the final negotiations regarding Senate Bill 192. This legislation is important, and our job is to see that it is implemented as the legislature intended.”
Floyd served on the SB 192 conference committee in the waning days of the 2015 regular session of the Kentucky General Assembly. The committee’s work created a compromise that strengthened penalties for heroin possession while providing mechanisms to save lives and help addicts return to productive lives.
Gov. Steve Beshear signed SB 192 into law earlier this year.
The joint Implementation Oversight Committee will report their findings to the General Assembly.
