Local man facing charges after allegedly trying to steal beer from Kroger

Wednesday, June 3, 2015, 9:20 a.m. — A Bardstown man was arrested Tuesday morning after he police_badgeallegedly tried to push eight 30-packs of beer out of the Kroger store on West John Rowan Boulevard without paying for the merchandise.

According to Bardstown Police, Joseph Tipton, 37, of Bardstown, was charged with second-degree robbery after attempting to leave the store without paying. When confronted by a store manager, Tipton allegedly knocked the manager down and fled the store on foot. The incident happened at about 10:30 a.m.

Police searched the area and located Tipton at the nearby Pizza Hut restaurant shortly after the robbery attempt was reported. In addition to the robbery charge, Tipton also had an outstanding warrant for failure to appear out of Hardin County District Court. He was lodged in the Nelson County Jail.
