AUSTIN LEE HARMON

Austin Lee Harmon, 30, was arrested after police were alerted of a possible drunk driver in a gray Honda leaving the area of North Third Street and Flamingo Drive at 4:52 a.m. Minutes later, Nelson County Dispatch received a second call reporting that Harmon was at the Five Star Food Mart at Second and East Stephen Foster Avenue.

Bardstown Officers Eric Williamson and Derek Sidebottom located Harmon in the parking lot and ordered him to get out of his car. He refused to get out of his vehicle and then backed up and fled the scene in a reckless manner. The officers pursued Harmon on downtown streets until his car stopped after it hit the rear of Williamson’s police cruiser.

Harmon still refused to leave his vehicle, and police removed him from it by force. Harmon suffered a head injury while struggling with police. He was transported by Nelson County EMS to Flaget Memorial Hospital for treatment.

On his release, he was charged with driving under the influence, fleeing and evading, resisting arrest, criminal mischief, reckless driving, disregarding a stop sign and two counts of wanton endangerment. He was lodged in the Nelson County Jail.

The investigation is ongoing, and police ask those with additional information contact Bardstown Police (502) 348-6811 or Nelson County Dispatch, (502) 348-3211.
