Customers pursue, tackle suspected shoplifter after he runs from store

Monday, June 8, 2015, 5 p.m. — A West Virginia man was apprehended and arrested with the help of bystanders following a shoplifting attempt and assault of a store employee Saturday afternoon at the Bardstown Wal-Mart.
Thomas Andrew Myers, 31, of West Virginia, was stopped by store security on suspicion of shoplifting when he assaulted the employee and ran from the store on foot. As the man left, he was pursued by store customers, one of which was riding a motorcycle. Myers is alleged to have run from the store to Springfield Road and KY245 intersection and then continued east until he was tackled by one of the customers pursuing him.
Myers was taken to Flaget Memorial by Bardstown Police for evaluation of complaints of back pain before he was arrested. He faces one county of robbery, second-degree and one count of fourth-degree assault. He was lodged in the Nelson County Jail.
