Tuesday, June 16, 2015, 3:20 a.m. — The Nelson County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a hit-and-run involving a 2-year-old child that was struck by a car Monday evening while riding a scooter in sheriffbadgefront of a home on Dixie Lane. At about 6:40 p.m., officers and Nelson County EMS were dispatched to Dixie Lane located off Old Nazareth Road. While the EMS squad was en route, a family member transported the child directly to Flaget Memorial Hospital’s emergency room with head injuries.

Eyewitnesses told police the person driving the car may not have seen the child. The dark-colored vehicle that struck the child did not stop and fled the scene. Officers searched the area trying to locate the vehicle with the assistance of the Kentucky State Police and Bardstown Police. Officers also reviewed security video.

The victim was later transferred from Flaget and transported to Kosair Hospital in Louisville by the hospital’s pediatric emergency transport unit.

Police are asking the public’s help in identifying the operator of the vehicle that fled the scene. Anyone with information on this incident can call the Nelson County Sheriff’s Office, (502) 348-1840 or Nelson County Dispatch, (502) 348-3211. Deputy Jerry Hardin is the investigating officer.
