Thursday, June 18, 2015 — Polka-tyme is the featured group this Friday at this week’s Edward Jones Summer Band Concert Series beginning at 7 p.m. at the Bardstown Community Park at the end of East Halstead.
Polka-tyme is the slightly wacky version of a traditional polka band, playing polkas, waltzes and a few novelty tunes, all with a bit of humor and fun.
The series, now in its 14th season of free, family oriented concerts, is co-sponsored by the Stephen Foster Music Club and the Bardstown/Nelson County Parks & Recreation Department. The free concerts are scheduled every Friday from Memorial Day through Labor Day.
In the event of rain, the concert will be held at the Farmers Market on East Flaget Avenue.
Next week’s concert will feature the River Cities Concert Band of Louisville, which will present a concert of wind band works, featuring the music of some of America’s favorite composers. The 50+ member band is based in the Louisville area, but draws musicians from all over north-central Kentucky and southern Indiana.
This year’s Summer Band Concert Series is underwritten by the Bardstown offices of Edward Jones Investments; our Corporate Patrons this year are Willett Distillery, Town & Country Bank, William & Janet Franklyn, and Jerry & Linda Bruckheimer. Significant donations were also made by Dick and Alice Heaton, Marie & Pike Conway, Farm Bureau Insurance-East, Five Star Food Marts, Hibbs and Associates, Boone’s Butcher Shop, Lincoln National Bank, and Bardstown Copy & Print.
Many other local businesses and individuals also made contributions, making this year’s concert series possible.
Bring a lawn chair or blanket and let the kids play on the park’s playground equipment while you enjoy the concert. There is plenty of parking available.
