Obituary: Anna ‘Cecilia’ Newton, 86, Bardstown
Anna “Cecilia” Newton, 86 of Bardstown, died peacefully Friday, June 26, 2015, at her home surrounded by her family. She was born July 20, 1928, at her grandparents home in the Balltown area.
She was a devoted Catholic, a Eucharistic minister, a member of the bereavement committee and a member of the St. Joseph Proto-Cathedral Altar Society. She was a past member of the American Legion Post 121 Ladies Auxiliary. She was an avid quilt maker and seamstress who enjoyed sewing. She was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister and a friend to all she knew.
She was preceded in death by her parents, James Gonza and Mary Esther (Downs) Fogle; her loving husband of 53 years, Bert Lee Newton; one son, James Stephen Newton; two sisters Mary Margaret Ice and Mary Elizabeth Figg; and two brothers, James Louis Fogle and Joseph Leon Fogle.
Survivors include three children, one daughter, Julia Ann (Vincent) Mallon of Louisville; two sons, Rick (Barbara) Newton of Bardstown and Alan (Melinda) Newton of New Haven; one sister, JoAnn (Artie) Mitchell of Mount Washington; two sister-in-laws, Martha Fogle of Bardstown and Barbara Fogle of Columbus, Ohio; 10 grandchildren, Eric (Christy) Newton, Travis (Brandi) Newton, Michael (Amanda Spalding) Newton, Jason (Jennifer) Newton, Philip Mallon, Patrick Mallon, Tina (Wayne) Vittitow, Brad (Chris) Hutchinson, Melanie (Trevor) Coulter and Kurtis Ballard; 17 great-grandchildren, Collin Newton, Nicholas Newton, Anna Elizabeth Newton, Eli Newton, Zoi Newton, Kelsey Newton, Brent Newton, Megan Newton, Jacob Newton, Ethan Newton, Kayla Vittitow, Stoy Vittitow, Ethan Hutchinson, Melynn Hutchinson, Austin Lyvers, Annabelle Coulter and Haiden Ballard; and several nieces and nephews.
The Funeral Mass is 11 a.m. Tuesday, June 30, 2015, at the Basilica of St. Joseph Proto-Cathedral with burial in the church cemetery with the Rev. Bill Hammer officiating.
Visitation is 3-8 p.m. Monday, June 29, 2015 and 9-10:15 a.m. Tuesday at Barlow Funeral Home.
