Burk said she wanted to come to the Nelson County Schools because of the sense of community she felt present in the district. She said she admired the way the community supports the individual schools in the district.

Burke has been an educator in both Hardin and Bullitt counties where she served as an English teacher, an Instruc tional Specialist. She will leave her job as assistant principal of Bullitt East High School and is ready to get active at Bloomfield Middle.

Anthony Orr, superintendent of Nelson County Schools said Burke made immediate connections with the Bloomfield Middle site-based council during her interviews.

“The BMS site-based council sensed very clearly that Ms. Burke’s energy, experience and expertise were a great fit for meeting the best expectations that the Bloomfield community had described in the feedback we received,” he said.

Burke spent time meeting and talking with school staff after she was introduced, and she took time to meet and talk with her future students who will attend Bloomfield in the fall.

Burke’s experience at Bullitt East helped her learn how to motivate and evaluate teachers, develop common assessments and coach educators as well as student athletes in basketball and volleyball.

“It’s important to celebrate successes in school, but it is also important to learn to deal with things when they don’t go exactly as planned,” she said.
