Chaplin Road home is destroyed in Friday morning blaze

Smoke rises from behind the caution tape that surrounds the debris of a home destroyed by fire Friday morning in the 300 block of Chaplin Road. Firefighters were called out at 5:38 a.m., and were on the scene until 10 a.m. Chaplin Road was closed for more than four hours.

STAFF REPORT

Friday, July 3, 2015, 1 p.m. — The Northeast Nelson Fire and Rescue responded early Friday morning to a reported structure fire in the 300 block of Chaplin Road east of Bloomfield. Police and fire units were dispatched to the fire at 5:38 a.m. and the first units on the scene found visible flames showing from the single-family home.

The Bardstown Fire Department provided mutual aid, and Nelson County EMS had an ambulance on standby while firefighters contained the blaze. Chaplin Road was closed to through traffic for four hours due to fire hoses in the roadway. The road was re-opened at 10 a.m. Firefighters were on the scene for about 4-1/2 hours. There were no injuries reported. The home was a total loss.
