WILLIAM “BILLY” WATHEN

William “Billy” Wathen, 62, of Bardstown, died Saturday, July 4, 2015, at Baptist Health. He was born Feb. 15, 1953, in Bardstown. He was a loving husband, father and papaw. He was a retired civil service worker at Fort Knox and worked for Buzick’s Construction. He was an Army and National Guard Veteran, a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, and an avid outdoorsman and fisherman.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Helen and Leo Wathen; and five brothers, Sonny Wathen, Jerry Wathen, Harold Wathen, Jimmy Wathen, and Donnie Wathen.

He is survived by his wife, Lorraine Wathen of Bardstown; his children, Laurie (Shannon) Evans of Bloomfield and Andy Wathen and at home grandson, Blake Wathen, both of Bardstown; five sisters, Carolyn Ballard, Flo Hobbs both of Nazareth, Lois (Bobby) Ballard of Bardstown, Maggie (Joe) DeViney of Santa Rosa Beach, Fla., and Martha Bickett of Bardstown; two brothers, Tommy Wathen of Bardstown, and Michael “Judy” Wathen of Cedar Grove; six grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; several great-nieces and nephews and great-great nieces and nephews.

The funeral is 11 a.m. Wednesday, July 8, 2015, at Barlow Funeral Home with Deacon John Hamilton officiating.

Visitation is 3-8 p.m. Tuesday, July 7, 2015, and 9-11 a.m. Wednesday, July 8, 2015, at the funeral home.

Memorial contributions may go to the Blake Wathen College Fund.

Barlow Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
