Obituary: Gary Clifton, 67, Bardstown

Gary Clifton, 67, of Bardstown, died Thursday, July 9, 2015 at Hosparus Inpatient Care Center in Louisville. He was born April 21, 1948, in Owenton, Kentucky. He was a 1966 graduate of Owen County High School, a 1970 graduate of Eastern Kentucky University, and retired as a Colonel from the U.S. Army Reserves where he served for 28 years. He was serving as president and CEO of Kentucky Home Bank, and served in that role since 1997. In 2014, he was named the Ron Filkins Volunteer Of The Year Award. He was involved with Bardstown-Nelson County Optimist Club, the Nelson County Educational Endowment Fund Board and was a member of the Guthrie Opportunity Center, of which his son, Kevin, is a client. He served on boards of Bethlehem High School and St. Joseph Parish, served as treasurer of Salvation Army, was member of Knights of Columbus, and St. Joseph Catholic Church.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Burnis and Gladys Clifton.

He is survived by his wife of 39 years, Teresa Clifton of Bardstown; two sons, Matthew Clifton of Austin, Texas and Kevin Clifton of Bardstown; three sisters, Shelia (Jack) Smith and Karen Centers, both of Lawrenceburg, and Tammy Napier of Frankfort; and several nieces and nephews.

The Funeral Mass is 11 a.m. Monday, July 13, 2015, at the Basilica of St. Joseph Proto-Cathedral with burial in the church cemetery with the Rev. Bill Hammer officiating.

Visitation is 2-8 p.m. Sunday, July 12, 2015 and 9-10:15 a.m. Monday at Barlow Funeral Home. A prayer service is 6 p.m. Sunday.

Memorial contributions may go to Salvation Army or The American Cancer Society.

Barlow Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
