Obituary: Ruby Alvey Newton Hamilton, 97, St. Francis

Ruby Alvey Newton Hamilton, 97, of St. Francis, died Sunday, July 19, 2015, at the Loretto Motherhouse Infirmary at Nerinx. She was born Oct. 29, 1917, in Illinois to the late Joseph Nicholas and Elizabeth Margaret Mattingly Dant.

She was preceded in death by three husbands, Thomas Benedict Alvey, Joseph Chester Newton and Joseph Eugene Hamilton; four sons, Donald Gerard Alvey, Clarence Alvie Alvey, James Garland Alvey and Joseph William “Dink” Alvey; four brothers, Clarence Alvey Dant, George Tilford Dant, Joseph Nicholas Dant and Thomas Shirley Dant; and two grandsons.

Survivors include five daughters, Joyce Mattingly (Roger) of St. Francis, Ina Steele (Ron) of San Antonio, Texas, Peggy Lyvers (Wayne) of Louisville, Marilyn Newton (Ray) of Bardstown and Debbie Rucker (Danny) of Cocoa, Fla,; four sons, John Thomas “Tobin” Alvey of Indianapolis, Ind., Randy Alvey and Tony Alvey, both of St. Francis and Terry Alvey of Bardstown; one brother, Gerald Mattingly (Bernice) of Indianapolis; 32 grandchildren; 60 great-grandchildren; 13 great-great grandchildren; and a number of stepchildren.

The Mass of Christian Burial is 11 a.m. Wednesday, July 22, 2015, at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church, 6785 Highway 52 in St. Francis. Burial is in the church cemetery.

Her nephew, the Rev. Joseph Nicholas Dant and the Rev. Emil Kanter will concelebrate.

Visitation is 3- 8 p.m. Tuesday, July 21, 2015, at the Mattingly Funeral Home, 195 Holy Cross Road, Loretto. A prayer service is 6:30 p.m. at the funeral home by Deacon Joseph R. Dant.

The Mattingly Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
