Magistrate Sam Hutchins looks on as Judge Executive Dean Watts shows the court the areas of the Nelson County Industrial Park he would like to see logged. The county logged portions of the property after it was purchased some years ago, he told the court.

Tuesday, July 21, 2015, 10:40 p.m. — Meeting in regular session Tuesday, Nelson Fiscal Court approved a $15,000 bid to replace the roof of the county-owned former Pic N Pay building in the Nelson County Justice Center complex .

The building will serve as the new home for the Bardstown-Nelson County Volunteer Fire Department Inc. when the department moves from its current location at the Bardstown Fire Department Station 1 at North Fifth Street adjacent to Bardstown City Hall.

The court also approved a bid of $19,465 to add overhead doors to the front of the building. The new doors will allow fire equipment to pull through the building. The existing covered porch on the front of the building will be removed.

For the past 15 years the building has been used for equipment storage for Nelson County Emergency Management. The money for the roof will protect the taxpayer’s investment in the property, Watts said.

TAX MORATORIUM REQUESTS. The court approved property tax assessment moratorium requests from the owners of two properties in the Maple Hill neighborhood.

Nicole Kwong was granted an assessment moratorium for a property located at 111 South Center St. The court also approved Frank Welch’s moratorium request for a home at 709 Kurtz Ave.

The moratorium freezes for five years the property tax value for an owner who invests in rehabilitating his home.

In other business, the court:

— agreed to Watts’ request to seek bids on logging a wooded area in the county-owned Nelson Industrial Park.

— approved $40,000 to replace the engine in one of the landfill’s roll-off trucks with a remanufactured one.

— approved paving requests in Districts 2 and 4.

— convened an executive session to discuss an economic development matter. When the court resumed its open meeting, Watts announced no action was taken in closed session.
