Obituary: Jean Bland Cecil, 86, Bardstown

Jean Bland Cecil, 86, of Bardstown, died Friday, July 24, 2015, at her home. She was born Nov. 21, 1928, in Bardstown. She was a retired registered nurse for Bardstown City Schools, and a longtime member of a local bridge club. She was a member of Flaget Hospital Auxiliary, St. Joseph Catholic Church Auxiliary, and St. Joseph Catholic Church.

She was preceded in death by her first husband, Harold Bernard Bland; her second husband, Sam K. Cecil; one daughter, Sally Bland; son, Harold Bernard “Harry” Bland Jr.; and her parents, Chester and Sallie Thompson.

She is survived by two daughters, Mary Jean Riley of Crestwood and Nancy Mattingly of Bardstown; three sons, Hugh Bland of Port St. Lucie, Fla., Paul (Rose Mary) Bland of White Stone, Va., and Maurice (Noi) Bland of Raleigh, N.C.; 15 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; and one aunt, Mary Stansbury of Bardstown.

Her Funeral Mass is 11 a.m. Tuesday. July 28, 2015, at the Basilica of St. Joseph Proto-Cathedral with burial in the church cemetery. The Rev. Bill Hammer will officiate.

Visitation is 4-8 p.m. Monday, July 27, 2015, and 9-10:15 a.m. Tuesday at Barlow Funeral Home.

Memorial contributions may go to St. Joseph Parish School.

Barlow Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
