Obituary: Brenda Land Foley, 67, Richmond
Brenda Land Foley, 67, of Richmond, died Sunday, July 26, 2015, after a long battle with cancer.
She was born Oct. 8, 1947 in Richmond to Thomas and Emma Stevens Land. She was a member of the first graduating Associate Arts Degree Nursing class at Eastern Kentucky University. She was a long-time nurse at Pattie A. Clay Hospital. After many years of nursing she followed her love of teaching to EKU where she taught for many years. In the years after her retirement she always enjoyed seeing her former students, who were always thanking her for being a wonderful teacher and role model for them. In her retirement she enjoyed gardening, traveling and most of all, spending time with her family, especially her four grandchildren. She was a member of Union City Christian Church and the Lizzie Berry Circle. She volunteered at the Salvation Army and was a former member of the Altrusa Club.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Thomas and Emma Stevens Land.
She is survived by her husband of 47 years, Glenn Foley; two sons, Allen (Shanda) Foley of Richmond and Matt (Missy) Foley of Shelbyville; three sisters: Patsy Moores, Carolyn Westerfield and Margaret Land; two brothers, Tommy (Melba) Land and Robbie (Dr. Gina) Land; four grandchildren, Keeley Foley, Kimball Foley, Noah Foley and Allie Foley; and numerous nieces and nephews.
A Celebration of Life is 11 a.m. Wednesday, July 29, 2015, at Oldham, Roberts & Powell Funeral Home in Richmond with Bro. Chip Denief officiating. Burial is in the Richmond Cemetery.
Visitation is 4-8 p.m. Tuesday, July 28, 2015, at the funeral home.
The pall bearers are Kimball Foley, James Clay Ballinger, Carter Smith, Wayne Cerny, Curtis Cooksey and Raymond Parke. Honorary pall bearers are members of the James William Harris Sunday school class of Union City Christian Church.
