Tuesday, July 28, 2015, 9:30 a.m. — The Nelson County Fire Department responded early Tuesday morning to a barn fire in the 4400 block of Bloomfield Road. Firefighters were dispatched at about 3 a.m. to a barn full of hay that was fully involved in flames located about a mile off the road. Access to the fire scene required firefighters to take their fire trucks through one barn to get to the barn that was burning. The barn and its contents were a complete loss, but firefighters were able to move some farm equipment to safety.
Firefighters cleared the scene at 4:45 a.m., but were called to return to the fire scene at 6:23 a.m. The incident commander told dispatchers that fire crews did not extinguish the burning bales of hay, and that the bales are likely to continue to burn at the site for a couple of days.
