Obituary: Joseph Leo Houck, 80, Bardstown

Joseph Leo Houck, 80, of Bardstown, died Saturday, Aug. 1, 2015, at his home. The Bardstown businessman was born June 27, 1935, in Cox’s Creek to the late Eugene and May Devers Houck. He retired after 35 years as a Century 21 real estate agent. He served in the U.S. Marine Corps on the U.S.S. Wasp and was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Mary Keene Houck; three sisters, Dolores Kaninberg, Betty Jean Hicks and Theresa Nix; and three brothers, Pitt Houck, Don Houck and David Houck.

He is survived by his wife, Mary Ann Barnes Houck, one daughter, Anne Barnes (Jon Rosenblatt) of Chicago; one son, David Barnes of Orlando, Fla.; four sisters, Kitty Brey of Hodgenville, and Marcella Yunt, Agnes Ritchie and Jane Houck, all of Louisville; one brother, Larry (Charli) Houck of Wichita, Kan.; one sister-in-law, Margaret (Lewis) Houck of Louisville; two grandchildren, Henry Rosenblatt and Adeline Rosenblatt; and several nieces and nephews.

The Mass of Christian Burial is noon Tuesday, Aug. 4, 2015, at the Basilica of St. Joseph Proto-Cathedral with the Rev. Bill Hammer as celebrant. Burial is in St. Gregory Church Cemetery.

Visitation is 4-8 p.m. Monday, Aug. 3, 2015, and after 9 a.m. Tuesday at the Houghlin-Greenwell Funeral Home, 1475 New Shepherdsville Road. A prayer service is 6 p.m. Monday.

The family requests memorial contributions go to St. Joseph Catholic Church.

The Houghlin-Greenwell Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
