Obituary: Mary Irene Wheatley Kays, 91, Botland
MARY IRENE WHEATLEY KAYS
Mary Irene Wheatley Kays, 91, of Botland, died Sunday, Aug. 16, 2015, at her home surrounded by family and friends. She was the mother of 14 children, and a homemaker who loved cooking and feeding her family and friends. She enjoyed fishing whenever she had a chance to go, and would never throw anything back, no matter how small. She truly had a heart of gold. Doors were always opened with a plate at the kitchen table, and anyone who needed a place to stay, it was offered. This angel will be missed greatly by the community.
She was preceded in death by her parents, John Lewis and Emma Lee Roby Wheatley; her husband, Clarence Elmo Kays; one daughter, Linda Kay Kays; one son, Michael Alan Kays; one grandson, Brandon Scott “Biscuit” Kays; seven childhood siblings, including a sister, Anges Marie Hutchins and a brother, W.A. Wheatley.
She is survived by four daughters, Sharon (Johnny) Yates and Sandy (JayBurr) Kays, both of Fredericktown, Lynn Kays of Botland and Mary Ann (Tony Carey) Kays of Bardstown; eight sons, Donnie (Verna) Kays of Fredericktown, Dickie (Ailene) Kays of Webster, Kenny (Kathy) Kays of Fredericktown, Roger (Jeanie) Kays and Terry (Dana) Kays, both of Bardstown, Tony (Debbie) Kays, Gary (Diane) Kays, and Denny (Angie Dones) Kays, all of Botland; one sister, Nora Volinda “Bunch” Mattingly; one daughter-in-law, Desi Kays of Botland; 34 grandchildren; 51 great-grandchildren; 12 great-great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
The funeral is 10 a.m. Wednesday, Aug, 19, 2015, at the Houghlin-Greenwell Funeral Home, 1475 New Shepherdsville Road with Bro. Jub Stevenson officiating. Burial is in the Bardstown Cemetery.
Visitation is 3-8 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 18, 2015, at the funeral home.
The family requests that expressions of sympathy take the form of contributions to the Botland Christian Church.
The Houghlin-Greenwell Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
