Shoplifter arrested after assaulting Kroger employee, fleeing on foot

Tuesday, Sept. 8, 2015, 12:30 p.m. — Nicholas James Gorczyca, 27, was arrested following a police investigation that he allegedly stole batteries at the Bardstown Kroger store, assaulted a store loss prevention officer and fled the store on foot.

At 3:25 p.m. Monday, Bardstown Police were called to a shoplifting complaint at Kroger. Police searched the area and found Gorczyca hiding under a vehicle at 44 Auto Mart. Officers had to forcibly drag Gorczyca from under the vehicle. Police found a plastic bag containing methamphetamine. Gorczyca told police he did not know how it got into his pocket.

Gorczyca was arrested and charged with robbery, second-degree; disorderly conduct, second-degree; and possession of controlled substances, first-degree (methamphetamine). He was lodged in the Nelson County Jail.
