Driver arrested, son injured in alcohol-related crash near Howardstown

Wednesday, Sept. 23, 2015, 6:47 p.m. — Nelson County EMS, Rolling Fork Fire, New Hope Fire, New Haven Police and the Nelson County Sheriff’s Office responded for a single-vehicle injury accident involving alcohol Tuesday evening in the 5900 block of Howardstown Road. At 6:55 p.m., first-responders were dispatched for an injury accident involving an overturned vehicle.
The vehicle driven by John T. Burba, 33, had run off the roadway and struck a tree before overturning. Burba’s three-year-old son, John T. Burba Jr. was injured in the crash and was taken by EMS to the intersection of KY247 and KY84 where they were met by a medical helicopter. The victim was flown to Kosair Children’s Hospital in Louisville for treatment of his injuries.
Burba was not injured in the crash. He was taken into custody by police at the scene and charged with operating a motor vehicle under the influence of alcohol and first-degree assault. He was lodged in the Nelson County Jail.
