Saturday, Sept. 26, 2015 — The City of Bardstown’s preservation coordinator is leaving the position effective Nov. 1.
Bardstown Mayor John Royalty announced Preservation Coordinator Hope Hawkins’ resignation on social media Friday afternoon.
Hawkins is a graduate of Western Kentucky University with a master’s degree in Folk Studies concentrating in Historic Preservation. She spent five years in archaeology prior to returning to graduate school.
She began as preservation coordinator in 2013 under the auspices of the Joint City-County Planning Commission. In January the city decided to move historic preservation in-house, and at that time Hawkins became a city employee.
Once the preservation coordinator job was moved to City Hall, Hawkins also took on the job as sign administrator for the city’s sign ordinance.
In his statement, Royalty said Hawkins “brought a wealth of experience and knowledge to the position and was a tireless advocate for the Historic District and overall preservation activities in Bardstown.”
In her new position, Hawkins will be the archaeology coordinator with the Division of Mine Permits, Kentucky Department for Natural Resources.
