Obituary: Larry G. Fields, 71, of Samuels

Larry G. Fields, 71, of Samuels, died Sunday, Oct. 4, 2015, at Colonial Nursing and Rehabilitation. He was born Aug. 26, 1944, in Louisville. He was retired from the Nelson County Road Department and was a member of St. Gregory’s Catholic Church.

He was the self-appointed mayor of Cox’s Creek, was always the prankster, loved the outdoors and lived to make the ladies smile. He was a compassionate man and loved life, family picnics was a favorite. Larry could tell a good story too. He was loved by his family and friends and will be greatly missed.

The family extends their appreciation to the staff of Colonial Nursing and Rehab for their support and dedication to Larry, and to Hospice of Nelson County.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Leslie C. and Lela Brinner Fields; and two sisters, Emily Hillerich and Dianne Edelen.

Survivors include two sons, Scotty Dale Girdley (Tammy) of Lebanon Junction and Glenn Fields (Kim) of Mount Washington; two sisters, Marilyn Lancon (Al) of Jeanerette, La. and Karen Judd (Brian) of Birmingham, Ala.; one brother, Tim Fields of Bardstown; four grandchildren, Tommy Dale Girdley, Brian Scott Girdley, Brittany Lynn Girdley and Austin Fields; two great-granddaughters; numerous nieces and nephews, especially Deanna Curry of Louisville and Christy Champagne of Jeanerette, La.; and his faithful companion dog, Foxy Lady.

The Mass of Christian Burial is 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 10, 2015, at St. Gregory Catholic Church with burial in the church cemetery. The Rev. Culpepper Elliott will be celebrant.

Visitation is 4-8 p.m. Friday, Oct. 9, 2015, and after 8:30 a.m. Saturday at the Houghlin-Greenwell Funeral Home, 1475 New Shepherdsville Rd. in Bardstown.

The Houghlin-Greenwell Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
