Obituary: Joseph Anthony ‘Tony’ Bartley Sr., 86, Greenbrier

Joseph Anthony “Tony” Bartley Sr., 86, of Greenbrier, died Friday, Oct. 30, 2015, at University Hospital. He was born June 9, 1929, in Nelson County. He was a former employee of Buzick Construction and a Catholic by faith.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Leonard and Eliza Reid Bartley; two sisters, Lanie Tibbs and Lucille Bartley; five brothers, J.B. Bartley, James Bartley, Monroe Bartley, Tom Ray Bartley and Talbott Bartley; and two grandchildren, Kevin Bartley and Joshua Bartley.

Survivors include five stepdaughters, Jean Foster (Robert) of Boston, Marie Vandusen (Dave), Julie Janes and Edith Rice (Joe), all of Bardstown and Ruthie Dragoo (Dalton) of Greenbrier; six sons, Joseph A. Bartley Jr. (Bev) and Guy Bartley (Chrissy), both of Loretto, Phillip Bartley (Denise), Vincent Bartley, Jack Bartley (Janie) and Nathen Bartley, all of Bardstown; one stepson, Bruce Holt (Terrie) of New Haven; one sister, Hannah Lee Greenwell of Greenbrier; 51 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; and nine great-great-grandchildren.

The funeral is 11 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 3, 2015, at Mattingly Funeral Home, 195 Holy Cross Road, Loretto with burial in the Holy Cross Cemetery. Deacon Joseph R. Dant will officiate. His sons will serve as pallbearers.

Visitation is 3-8 p.m. Monday, Nov. 2, 2015, at the funeral home.

The Mattingly Funeral Home in Loretto is in charge of the arrangements.
