Review: Cookbook offers kid-friendly recipes, activites for the kitchen

Sunday, Nov. 1, 2015 — With Halloween now behind us, the upcoming holidays mean everyone looks forward to spending more time with their family and enjoying everyone’s favorite holiday recipes. Who doesn’t enjoy gathering around the table to share their favorite specialties in a holiday meal with loved ones?

The approach of Christmas and the gift-giving season also means we eventually are pushed into the annual search for a that perfect, unique and meaningful gift.

Cookbooks are not a new gift idea, but Great American Publishers recently published a new cookbook whose goal is to help busy families make their own holiday memories

“Kitchen Memories Cookbook” isn’t just a cookbook aimed at the cooks in your family; it is a cookbook featuring dishes aimed at children that family members can create with their help. The dishes include kid favorites that are easy to make, including Popcorn Cake, Corn Dog Twists, Granny Goose Popcorn, Bugs in a Boat and more.

In addition to dozens of recipes, the 256-page book also includes activity pages with fill-in-the-blank memories of family time together and ideas for quick, fun activities you and your children can do together.

“This isn’t just another cool ‘Mommy and Me’ cookbook,” co-author Sheila Simmons said. At the time of publication, Simmons said she is expecting her first grandchild.

“I wrote this cookbook with a mind for anyone to use with the child they love,” she said. “In addition to Moms, it’s great for Dads, Grandads, Aunts, Uncles, and, of course, Grannies like me.”

The book can become a keepsake for parents or grandparents to allow them to record their holiday activities in the kitchen. The book also includes easy-to-create craft ideas sure to entertain youngsters of all ages.

Great American Publishers also publishes its “Back Roads” cookbook series, including the Kentucky Back Roads Restaurant Recipes book reviewed by the Gazette last December.
