Obituary: Joseph Edward ‘Lightning’ Winfield, 77, Loretto

JOSEPH EDWARD “LIGHTNING’ WINFIELD

Joseph Edward “Lightning” Winfield, 77, of Loretto, died Tuesday, Nov. 17, 2015, at his home. He was born Sept. 7, 1938, in Manton to the late Joseph Eugene and Mary Theresa Reid Winfield. He was a former employee of the Loretto Motherhouse and a Catholic by faith.

Survivors include his wife of 47 years, Mary Alice “Sissy” Mattingly; one daughter, Cathy Winfield, at home; one sister, Mary Ann Kidwell (John) of Manton; one son, Charlie Winfield, at home; and a number of nieces and nephews.

The Mass of Christian Burial is 11 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 19, 2015, at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church, 6785 Hwy 52, St. Francis, with burial in the church cemetery. The Rev. Emil Kander will officiate.

Visitation is 3-8 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 18, 2015, at the Mattingly Funeral Home, 195 Holy Cross Road, Loretto with a 7 p.m. prayer service by Deacon Joseph R. Dant.

The Mattingly Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
