Bardstown woman dies in Nov. 18 Pekin, Ill. head-on collision

Wednesday, Nov. 25, 2015, 5:13 p.m. — A Bardstown woman died Nov. 18, 2015, in a head-on crash southwest of Pekin, Ill.

According to published accounts in the Pekin (Illinois) Journal Star, Nicole Crawley, 33, died at the scene from injuries sustained in the crash. Crawley was a back seat passenger in a vehicle driven by Dawn Sharp, 35, of Peoria, Ill. Sharp and her husband, Christopher Sharp, 42, were driving north in the 10000 block of Manito Road when a southbound car driven by Armond Arnold, 70, of Pekin, crossed the center line and hit them head-on.
Arnold told investigators he was swerving to avoid debris in the roadway. He was treated for minor injuries and released. Arnold was cited for improper lane usage by the Tazewell County Sheriff’s Office.
The Sharps were flown from the scene by helicopter to OSF St. Francis Medical Center in Pekin, Ill., for treatment of their injuries. Investigators said Crawley was in the back seat of the Sharp’s vehicle and did not have identification with her at the time of the crash. Her identity was released by the Tazewell County coroner the following day.
Christopher Sharp was released from the hospital Nov. 19. Dawn Sharp died of her injuries Nov. 20.
Crawley is survived by two daughters, Katelyne Crawley and Savannah Watts of Bardstown; one son, Michael Crawley of Bardstown; her mother, Jeannie Watts of Bardstown; her stepfather, Michael Watts of Bardstown; her father, Timothy Gaffney of Louisville; one sister, Mindy Kimmel of Bardstown; her maternal grandmother, Nadine Tyrrell of Mount Washington; her paternal grandmother, Geroldine Hill of Louisville; and four nieces and nephews, Isaiah Kimmel, Madilyn Kimmel, Brinkley Kimmel, and Elleanna Kimmel, all of Bardstown.
The funeral is 11 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 28, 2015, at the Barlow Funeral Home with burial in the Bardstown Cemetery.
Visitation is 3-8 p.m. Friday, Nov. 27, 2015, and 9-11 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home.
Memorial contributions may go toward her service.
