Bardstown Police arrest two men for allegedly passing fake $100 bills

Monday, Nov. 30, 2015, 11 p.m. — Bardstown Police arrested two men Monday evening after they allegedly passed a series of fake $100 bills at a number of Bardstown-area businesses.

watermark-on-100-billAt 5:04 p.m. Monday, Bardstown Police were dispatched to Daddy Yo’s Frozen Desserts, 217 Kentucky Home Square, for a report of two men who asked the business to accept a $100 bill and get change in $5 bills. The business refused the bill, and the men left that business and traveled to Walgreens, where they allegedly passed a counterfeit bill. Eye witness reports helped officers locate the car the men were in — a green Volkswagen Beetle. Officers — as they left the area heading south on North Third Street, where it was stopped in the 800 block.

Police contacted a number of businesses in the area of Kentucky Home Square after they found fast food bags in the vehicle with warm food inside. The stopped at a number of restaurants and retail businesses and successfully passed the counterfeit bills, including two area minit marts. One business who accepted a fake $100 bill said their counterfeit detection pens passed the bill, but it lacked the security features found on real $100 bills.

The men were arrested and lodged in the Nelson County Jail.
