Wednesday, Dec. 2, 2015, 1 a.m. — Luxco, a St. Louis-based producer and marketer of distilled spirits, has partnered with local property owners to request rezoning of three tracts totaling about 70 acres near the intersection of US150, the Springfield road and KY 245 for I-2 Heavy Industrial District — the zoning classification needed for a bourbon distillery operation.
A hearing has been scheduled for Dec. 15, 2015 on an application filed by Luxco Incorporated and property owners John and Nancy Ballard. The applicants are also seeking a conditional use permit necessary for distillery operation on the property.
Luxco was founded in 1958 as the David Sherman Corporation. The company has a variety of distilled spirits in its product lineup, including Ezra Brooks, Rebel Yell and Yellowstone Kentucky Bourbons, as well as vodkas, gin, wines, tequilas, scotch and Canadian whiskeys.
The company is no stranger to the Central Kentucky’s rich bourbon heritage. In December 2014, it was announced that Luxco purchased 50 percent ownership in the Limestone Branch Distillery in Lebanon. At the time it was announced the jointly operated distillery would begin distilling the original recipe for Yellowstone Kentucky bourbon, which Luxco acquired in 1993.
Limestone was founded in 2011 by brothers Stephen B. Beam and Paul Beam.
