Obituary: Carlton Rayburn ‘Chief’ Cornish, 79, Chaplin
Carlton Rayburn “Chief” Cornish, 79, of Chaplin, died Wednesday, Dec. 2, 2015, at Baptist Health Hospital. He was born April 19, 1936, in Nelson County and was retired from General Electric. He was a member of Masonic Lodge No. 57 of Bloomfield, and Van Buren Baptist Church.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Ezra and Nellie Cornish; one sister, Nadine Bell; one brother, Charles Cornish; one granddaughter, Tabitha Brooke Stephens; and three great-grandsons, Aiden Blandford, James Colton Hagan, and Isaac Robert Nalley.
He is survived by his wife, Sarah Margaret Cornish of Chaplin; eight children, Kathy (Jerry) Hagan and Debra (Gary) Morrow, both of Lawrenceburg, Alda Morris of Chaplin, Tammy (Jeffrey) Isham of Mackville, Pamela (Chris) Stephens, Carlton Truman Cornish, Ezra (Larissa) Cornish, and Floyd (Ashley) Cornish, all of Chaplin; three sisters, Gwendolyn (Leon) Shely of Lexington, Florence (Linul) Barnett of Lawrenceburg, and Doris Ann Mattingly of Fisherville; one brother, Larry Bruce Cornish of Chaplin; 19 grandchildren; and 26 great-grandchildren.
The funeral is 11 a.m. Saturday Dec. 5, 2015, at Barlow Funeral Home with burial in Highview Cemetery in Chaplin. The Rev. Paul Hagerman and the Rev. Winfred Hagerman will officiate.
Visitation is 3-8 p.m. Friday, Dec. 4, 2015 and 9-11 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home. A Masonic service is 6:30 p.m. Friday.
Memorial donations may go to donor’s favorite charity.
