Wednesday, Dec. 16, 2015, 1 p.m. (UPDATED 3:30 p.m.) — Bardstown Police investigated a threat of violence Wednesday morning at Bardstown High School being spread bardstownpolicepatchon social media. Bardstown Police were alerted at about 10 a.m. Wednesday.

In a Bardstown Police social media post, Chief Rick McCubbin says police have not found nor seen an actual threat, but have found second and third-hand social media messages stating that a shooting would take place at the school.

Police found no tangible threat at the school, however as a precaution police said the school was on soft lockdown Wednesday, which means the exterior doors are secured.

School remained in session the rest of the day, but according to numerous social media posts about the incident, large numbers of parents opted to pull their children out of the high school and the district’s other schools.

Superintendent Brent Holsclaw said the school issued the following One Call message Wednesday afternoon to parents and guardians of city school students that said:

As you are probably aware, a rumor circulated today about a potential threat at the high school.  Bardstown City Police determined there was no tangible threat and that the rumor was spread through social media. We want you to know that your child’s safety is our first priority and we will continue to take appropriate measures to assure their safety. Thank you.
McCubbins said Wednesday afternoon Bardstown Police were going to remain on the city school campus the rest of the day.
