Obituary: Jordan Dewayne Hickman, 24, Valparaiso, Ind.

JORDAN DEWAYNE HICKMAN

Jordan Dewayne Hickman, 24, of Valparaiso, Ind., died Sunday, Dec. 20, 2015, on US31 E in Nelson County. He was born Sept. 12, 1991, in Louisville. He was a graduate of Indiana Tech where he played basketball in 2013. He was a graduate of Bardstown High School in 2009 where he played football, basketball (all-district in 2009) and ran track. He was a member of the AME Zion faith.

He was an integral part of the 2011-12 NAIA National Tournament team and earned numerous accolades for the Warriors during his junior season, including: Third-Team All-Conference, All-Newcomer Team, All-Academic Team, and was named to the Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference (WHAC) Champions of Character Team and was also inducted into NCAHS Chi Alpha Sigma. As a senior, he was named All-Conference Honorable Mention after averaging 10.7 points per game and starting all 31 games for the Orange and Black, and was again selected as Tech’s representative on the conference’s Champions of Character Team. Hickman graduated with a degree in Business Administration.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Alton and Mary Lee Thompson and Marion Lee Hickman.

He is survived by his parents, Gary and Terrie Hickman of Bardstown; one sister, Allyson L. Hickman of Louisville; two brothers, Anthony Shaun Hickman of Louisville and Jared R. Hickman of Bardstown; his paternal grandmother, Cecilia “Tootie” Hickman of Bardstown; his girlfriend, Klaudia Velazquez of Valparaiso, Ind.; his niece, Ariya Miller; his nephew, Myles Miller; and several aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends.

The funeral is 11 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 23, 2015, at Parkway Baptist Church with the Rev. Jeff Yocum officiating. Burial is in the Bardstown Cemetery.

Visitation is 3-8 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 22, 2105, and 10-11 a.m. Wednesday at Parkway Baptist Church.
