Obituary: Michael Patrick Roby, 55, Deatsville

Michael Patrick Roby, 55, of Deatsville, died Saturday, Dec. 19, 2015, peacefully at his Deatsville home following a long battle with leukemia.

He was born Nov. 16, 1960, in Jeffersonville, Ind. He graduated from Purdue University with a degree in agriculture and R.E.T.S. Institute of Technology with a degree in electronics. He married LaVerne, the love of his life, in 1989. They made a home in Deatsville, and he worked for United Parcel Service for 27 years. He shared his love of music and passion for the University of Louisville sports with his children.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Dr. Alma Lee Roby and Jeanne Roby.

He is survived by his wife, LaVerne Lawrence Roby; two children, Danielle Roby and Matthew S. Roby; one stepdaughter, Monica Guarnaschelli; one sister, Melissa Roby Meriwether of Jeffersonville, Ind.; one brother, Rob Roby of Lanesville, Ind.; and three granddaughters, Amelia Roby, Ruth Roby and Ruby Grace Guarnaschelli.

Burial was in St. Gregory’s Cemetery following a private family service.

A memorial service and reception is 4 p.m. Monday, Dec. 28, 2015, at Sojourn Community Church Midtown, 1207 South Shelby St., Louisville. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Bethany Haven in Bardstown, (502) 349-7239, or the Society of St. Vincent de Paul in Bardstown.

The family would like to express their gratitude to Mikes’s friends and coworker at UPS for their support and dedication during his illness.

The McFarland-Troutman-Proffitt Funeral Home in Mount Washington was in charge of the arrangements.
