Obituary: Virginia Woods Bowling, 85, New Hope

Virginia Woods Bowling, 85, of New Hope, died Friday, Dec. 25, 2015, in Bardstown. She was born April 14, 1930, in New Hope.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Sylvester Bowling; one daughter, Ann Woods Bowling; her parents, John Bernard and Agnes Winfred “Winnie” Mattingly; one sister, Rita Matthews; and two brothers, Stanley and Jake Woods.

She leaves behind many family members and friends who will cherish her memory including one daughter, Agnes Bowling of Bardstown; three sons, Gerry Bowling (Doris) of Georgetown, Joe Bowling (Lynn) and Paul Bowling (Susan), all of New Hope; one sister, Ann Jones of Savannah, Ga.; 11 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

The Mass of Christian Burial is 11 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 29, 2015, at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church, 104 Church St. in New Hope, with cremation to follow. The Rev. Ken Fortener will preside.

Visitation is 5-8 p.m. Monday, Dec. 28, 2015, at the Mattingly Funeral Home, 195 Holy Cross Road, Loretto with a 7 p.m. prayer service with Deacon Jim Cecil.

Pallbearers are grandsons, Lance Bowling, Ethan Bowling, Chris Metcalf, Silas Bedtelyon, Gary Mudd and Jamie Hagan.

Honorary Pallbearers are grandchildren, Jesta Bowling, Whitley Bowling, Renee Metcalf, Kelly Bedtelyon, Katie Bowling and Meghan Bowling.

The Mattingly Funeral Home in Loretto is in charge of the arrangements.
