New Hope man seriously injured in single-vehicle crash Saturday

Monday, Dec. 28, 2015, 12:30 a.m. — A New Hope man suffered serious injuries Saturday evening in a single-vehicle accident in the 4700 block of KY 49, the Loretto Road.

According to the Nelson County Sheriff’s Office, Stanley Smuskiewicz, 67, of New Hope was driving his 1993 Plymouth van in a curve when it skidded due to the wet roadway. The van ran off the left side of the road into a yard and struck a tree. Smuskiewicz was transported by Nelson County EMS to Flaget Memorial Hospital for evaluation and treatment of multiple injuries. He was later transferred to University Hospital in Louisville.

Sgt. R. B. Jones of the Nelson County Sheriff’s Office investigated the accident.
