Obituary: Anna ‘Melissa’ Greenwell, 94, formerly of Bardstown

ANNA “MELISSA” GREENWELL

Anna “Melissa” Greenwell, 94, formerly of Bardstown, died Sunday, Dec. 27, 2015. at the Loretto Motherhouse in Nerinx with her family by her side. She was born Aug. 17, 1921, in Bardstown to the late Bernard and Mary Alice Ball Hutchins and she was the last of their children. She and her late husband Ernest Greenwell were swine farmers raising feeder pigs for 20 years. She was a self-employed interior painter, refinished antique furniture, and worked as a former St. Joe Prep cook and an employee of the former Glenco Distillery.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Ernest Greenwell; two sons, John Ernest Greenwell and Joseph James “Jim” Greenwell; six sisters, Mary Ethel Hutchins, Rosaline Spalding, Loraine Duncan, Bernadine Janes, Unabell Pendygraft and Alice Hardin; four brothers, Thomas Elmer “Bill” Hutchins, Francis Hutchins, James Hamilton “Dagoo” Hutchins, John C. Hutchins; one grandson Mica Lawrence.

She is survived by one daughter, Betty (Luther) Stone of Bardstown; one son, Thomas (Carol) Greenwell of Bardstown; a special niece, Ann Coomes; eight grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; and several great-great-grandchildren.

The funeral is 7 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 30, 2015, at the Houghlin-Greenwell Funeral Home with cremation to follow. Burial is at a later date.

Visitation is 1-8 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 30, 2015, at the funeral home.

The Houghlin-Greenwell Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
