Obituary: Harry Arnold Goldstein, 79, Louisville
Harry Arnold Goldstein, 79, of Louisville, died Thursday, Dec. 31, 2015, at Norton Suburban Hospital in Louisville. He was the son of the late Philip and Marcella Weiland Goldstein, born May 31, 1936, in Louisville. He was a member of St. Michael Church of Louisville where he was also a member of the 3M Club. He was a U.S. Army veteran, and was a member of the Kentucky Grocers Association, Inc. He began his career at the age of 9, delivering groceries on a pony during WWII for his parents grocery store on Virginia Avenue in Louisville. He worked there until he went into the Army in 1959. He then came home and left the family business and managed a grocery store on Dixie Highway until he came to Taylorsville and bought the Little Giant Grocery Store in 1966. He also partnered with his brother Joe in 1974 and started the Key Market in Bardstown. He then built the new store, Foodland, in Taylorsville in 1986. He stayed there until the new Country Mart was built and opened in 2007, where he continued to work until his untimely death.
Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Jeff Goldstein.
He is survived by his wife, Linda Ingram Goldstein; one son, Matt (Angie) Goldstein of Louisville; one stepdaughter, Julie (Wayne) Lecompte of Mount Washington; one stepson, Kenneth Bruce Aubrey of Taylorsville; three sisters, Joann Henry of Louisville, Eileen (Jim) Mitchell and Dolores Snyder, both of Sellersburg, Ind.; one brother Joe (Rita) Goldstein of Bardstown;
four grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; two stepgrandchildren; and five stepgreat-grandchildren.
The Mass of Christian Burial is 1 p.m. Monday, Jan. 4, 2016, at St. Michael Catholic Church, 3705 Stone Lakes Drive in Louisville with the Rev. Dick Sullivan and the Rev. Kenny Kamber officiating. Burial is in the Valley Cemetery in Taylorsville.
Visitation is 2-8 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 3, 2016, and 8 a.m.-noon Monday, at the Greenwell-Houghlin Funeral Home in Taylorsville with a prayer service Sunday evening.
