Obituary: Richard Dean Coates, 61, Cox’s Creek

RICHARD DEAN COATES

Richard Dean Coates, 61, of Cox’s Creek, died Friday, Jan. 1, 2016, at his home. He was born in Louisville Oct. 22, 1954, the son of the late Morgan and Rita Louise Barnes Coates. He was a retired heavy equipment operator and a U.S. Army veteran.

He is survived by his wife, Margaret McFarland Coates; two daughters, Melissa (Cory) Downs of Cox’s Creek, and Angela Coates of Sullivan, Ind.; one sister, Martha (Donnie) Reed of Ind.; one brother, Mike (Linda) Coates of New Albany, Ind.; and three grandchildren, Morgan Clark, Makayla Downs, and Cambron Downs.

The funeral is 7 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 5, 2016 at the Houghlin-Greenwell Funeral Home, 1475 New Shepherdsville Road, with Bro. Steve Lane officiating.

Visitation is 3-8 p.m. Tuesday with cremation to follow.

The Houghlin-Greenwell Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
