Obituary: Virginia Lee Anderson Browning, 91, formerly of Bardstown

VIRGINIA LEE ANDERSON BROWNING

Virginia Lee Anderson Browning, 91, of Lexington, formerly of Bardstown, died Friday, Jan. 15, 2016. She was born in Madison County to the late William Thomas and Anna Ingram Anderson. She was a member of Central Christian Church where she sang in the choir for 18 years. She was a member of the Bardstown Christian Church for 36 years.

She was executive director of the Bardstown Chamber of Commerce for 23 years. She played a large part in getting President Jimmy Carter to visit Bardstown in July 1979. She was awarded the first Business Person of the Year Award which is now awarded every year in her honor. She was active in the Stephen Foster Music Club, Flaget Memorial Hospital, and participated in local choruses and theater. She received Kentucky Colonel commissions from Gov. Wendell Ford and Gov. Martha Layne Collins.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Harold C. Browning; one son, Harold T. Browning; and her loving sister, Marie A. Abney.

Survivors include her daughter and caregiver, Judith Lee Browning; Tori Browning (Ryan) Brewer, Victoria Browning, Hayes Brewer, Toby Brewer and Sophie Brewer, Gary C. Abney and Adrian Millett, Bill (Bev) Abney, Susan Creamer, Philip Creamer, Justin Creamer and Chloe Creamer.

The funeral is 2 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 19, 2016, at Central Christian Church, 205 E. Short St., Lexington with burial at the Richmond Cemetery.

Visitation is 11 a.m.- 2 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 19, 2016, at Central Christian Church, 205 E. Short St., Lexington.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations are suggested to the family to help purchase a plaque in her honor in Bardstown. Donations can be made to the Virginia Browning Family c/o Milward Funeral Directors, 159 N. Broadway, Lexington, KY, 40507.

Pallbearers will be, Ryan Brewer, Hayes Brewer, Toby Brewer and Sophie Brewer, Rob Bromley, Teddy Flagg, Stan Wylie, Russell Sipe, and Danny Abner. Honorary pallbearers will be, Dr. Terrance Furlow, Edgar Drake, Virginia Drake, “Boys at the Lab”, Grant Bolt, Philip Creamer, Lee Marie Lumpkin, Debbie Anne Greer, DaVita Staff, Carol Shanklin, Paula Webster, Ruth W., and Eliska. We would also like to thank the staff of Central Baptist Hospital.

The Milward Funeral Directors in Lexington are in charge of the arrangements.
