The National Weather Service is predicting a winter storm with snow accumulation of 8 to 12 inches or more for parts of Central Kentucky, including Nelson, LaRue, Marion and Washington counties.

The snow is predicted to start in the southern parts of Nelson County between 4 and 7 a.m. and travel north. The snow will continue throughout the day Friday and into Saturday before ending between 4 and 8 a.m.

SCHOOL CLOSINGS. The following schools have already announced they are closed Friday:

– Bardstown City Schools and the district child care
– Nelson County Schools and the district child care
– Bluegrass Christian Academy
– Elizabethtown Community & Technical College closed Friday and Saturday

BUSINESS CLOSINGS. A number of businesses will close early on Friday due to the approaching weather.

Due to inclement weather, Town & Country Bank and Trust Company’s banking centers will operate on a limited schedule for Friday, January 22nd, 2016.

TOWN & COUNTRY BANK. Town & Country Bank & Trust will operate on a limited schedule at its main office in Bardstown and in New Haven, 9:30 a.m. to 3 p.m.

The bank’s Plaza and John Rowan banking centers will be closed for the day.

FORT KNOX FCU. All branches of the Fort Knox Federal Credit Union will be closed Friday.

GOVERNMENT CLOSINGS. The Nelson County Clerk’s office and the Nelson County Justice Center will be closed Friday. All state offices will be closed.

STORM PREPAREDNESS. With the heavy snow predicted for the county, Joe Prewitt, the county’s emergency management director, says being prepared is important for the personal and family safety.

The heavy snow will make traveling the highways increasingly dangerous. Prewitt recommends residents avoid travel unless it is an emergency. If travel is necessary, he recommends keeping food, water, a flashlight and a blanket in your vehicle in the event of an emergency.

Before venturing out in poor weather conditions, call to be certain the business you wish to visit is open.
