City Hall closing at noon; warming shelter to open due to storm

Friday, Jan. 22, 2016, 10 a.m. — Due to the inclement weather, Bardstown City Hall will close today at noon.
Nelson County EMA Director Joe Prewitt announced this morning that the Nelson County Civic Center, 321 S. Third St. in Bardstown, will be open as a warming shelter for the duration of the weather event.
A warming shelter is a short-term emergency shelter that operates when temperatures or weather events threaten to become a hazard. The shelter’s purpose is to allow people a have a place to stay warm in the event they are unable to do so at their own residence.
If needed, the Nelson County Senior Citizens building on Plaza Drive will be opened later as an additional warming shelter.
WEATHER UPDATE. Snow continues to fall across Nelson County, and the National Weather Service reports snow will continue through the day and into early Saturday morning.
The weather service’s latest prediction includes possible snow totals Nelson County of 8 to 12 inches for most of the county, with 12 to 15 inches of snow possible for areas south of the Bluegrass Parkway.
Drifting snow is likely to be a hazard on roadways due to the sustained winds of 15-25 mph with gusts up to 35 mph.
